Animation Hasbro to Release Adult-themed GI Joe Cartoon
Posted by Z-R0E on June 29, '08 at 03:03 PM
Announced at the recent JoeCon (I can only assume a GI Joe convention), Hasbro showed a trailer for their upcoming PG-13 GI Joe cartoon called "GI Joe: Absolute". From the HissTank.com article...
Quote: HissTank.com
Adult themed, PG-13
Highly detailed animation
Designed to bring adult fans back into the market
10 5 minute episodes, 1 10 minute season finale
No distribution decided upon yet.
Could be webisodes, could be tv special, could be DVD, or all 3.
Starts in first quarter 2009
NO LASERS. NO PARACHUTING.
Will have deaths.
Little to no blood (but, from what we've seen, that won't matter)
Focus on core early characters.
No Cobra La.
As short scene from the trailer they played at JoeCon included a part where "Snake eyes then goes one on one with the last Trooper, flips him over, takes out his sword, thrusts down into the Trooper's chest, and TURNS IT. Emphasis on the kill. Stands up, puts sword back in its holder."

Even bigger news (to me) is that, if this is successful, Hasbro intends to give the same treatment for Transformers. I can think of no better way for Gen1 to make an animated return. This could be the best thing to happen to Transformers since Dreamwave and Henkei.

Gaming Diablo III Announced
Posted by Z-R0E on June 28, '08 at 02:59 AM
Non-surprisingly, it looks really good. My only complaint is that they didn't do more with the teaser splash screens they had been using this past week. Until a US version of the site comes up, here's the EU Diablo 3 site, with cinematic and gameplay trailers. The environments are GORGEOUS, they look painted almost.

I'm not sure if I'm reading into this too much, but when I went to watch the cinematic trailer it asked for my age. I wonder if they're going for an adult rating with D3 to compete against AoC's "adult" oriented content (boobs and blood).

No news yet on whether or not it'll have free online play, for some reason I partially doubt it. I'm sure it'll have a single player (Blizzard knows better), and they may even copy Flagship Studios by offering free "basic" online play, with additional content/etc for a monthly fee. I had heard an unsubstantiated claim that they could offer a "Blizzard package" monthly fee, where for like $20/month you get WoW, D3, and SC2 online play. Like I said, there was no proof or any thing of that, but I can see it being done.

Quote: StarCraft Legacy
The Spanish gaming magazine Micromania has an article on StarCraft II in their latest issue. In this article we are, for the first time, enlightened on the current system requirements.

These requirements are vague at the moment, but that's expected at this point. They're also a bit higher than most of us foresaw, but they are very much in league with modern games.

Minimum requirements:
- GeForce 7/8 Series or Radeon 1000/2000 with 256 MB RAM
- Pentium 4
- 1 GB RAM
- 1 Mbit ADSL internet connection

Recommended requirements:
- GeForce 8000 or Radeon 2000 series with 512 MB RAM
- Core 2 Duo or Athlon X2
- 2 GB RAM
- 3 Mbit ADSL internet connection

Optimal requirements:
- Geforce 9000 or Radeon 3000 Series
- Core 2 Duo 3 GHz or Athlon X2
- 2GB with DualChannel mode RAM

Computers A Walk Through the Hard Drive Recovery Process
Posted by Z-R0E on May 12, '08 at 09:38 PM
Copy & Pasting /. article out of laziness.
Quote: Slashdot
It's well known that failed hard drives can be recovered, but few people actually use a recovery service because they're expensive and not always successful. Even fewer people ever get any insights into the process, as recovery companies are secretive about their methods and rarely reveal any more information that is necessary for billing. Geek.com has an article walking through a drive recovery handled by DriveSavers. The recovery team did not give away many secrets, but they did reveal a number of insights into the process.

Gaming BlizzCon '08 Announced
Posted by Z-R0E on May 12, '08 at 10:43 AM
October 10-11th. I'll be reserving a hotel ASAP. My plan is to book both a one-bed room and a suite, then I'll cancel whichever isn't needed when the time comes. The plan is to arrive on the 9th, leave on the 12th (so that we can relax before and after the convention). I'll also be setting up a Frostwolf dinner on the 9th.

Further details on my attendance will be updated on the BlizzCon post in the convention thread.

Gaming Blizzard Updates Online Store
Posted by Z-R0E on May 03, '08 at 03:44 AM
Blizzard updated their online store. Why should you care and sign up? Well in addition to their beta lottery, you'll also be able to enter the CD key for games you've purchased and download them from the site, which goes well with the fact that WC3 and SC no longer require the CD to play.

Movies Number 5 is Still Alive
Posted by Z-R0E on April 07, '08 at 04:43 PM
It's official, Short Circuit is being remade. I've stated many times how much I absolutely love both the movies, but I'm not sure how much I'm into this. I could maybe be optimistic about a third movie in the series, but a remake? Ungh, do not want. The only possible saving grace is that the original creators & writers are onboard for the remake, but that's just not enough to make me think that a remake is a good idea. We'll see how it turns out.

World Pirates seize French Yacht.
Posted by Keii on April 04, '08 at 01:24 PM
  Source: CNN

Quote: CNN
Pirates seized control of a French luxury yacht carrying 30 crew members Friday in the Gulf of Aden off Somalia's coast, the French government and the ship's owner said.

Attackers stormed the three-mast Le Ponant as it returned without passengers from the Seychelles, in the Indian Ocean, toward the Mediterranean Sea, said officials with French maritime transport company CMA-CGM.

"This is a blatant act of piracy," Prime Minister Francois Fillon told reporters while on a visit to Brussels. "The Defense and Foreign ministries are mobilized to act as quickly as possible, I hope in the coming minutes or hours to try to win the freedom of these hostages."
Full story...

I find this funny, just because it's 2008 and there's an actual pirate attack that isn't referring to illegally downloading copywrited materials off the intarwebz.

Random World Depends on Axl Rose for Free Dr. Pepper
Posted by Z-R0E on March 27, '08 at 02:49 AM
I guess the heads of Dr. Pepper are big Axl Rose fans, because they're promising everyone in the world (except Slash and Buckethead) a free can of Dr. Pepper if Axl releases Chinese Democracy in 2008. He's been working on the album for seventeen years.

I'm not a big GNR or Axl Rose fan but I love this idea, and not just because I like Dr. Pepper. I've always said that if I had the riches to do so, I'd do random stuff like this. Please rich people, start issuing challenges to other people in pop culture. Or putting up billboards teasing your friends. Or get ad time during the Super Bowl to brag about your new epics in WoW. Or give me the money to do those things.

Computers Seagate May Sue Solid State Manufacturers
Posted by Z-R0E on March 24, '08 at 09:26 PM
As solid state drives begin to (finally) gain momentum, Seagate has announced that they are considering suing manufacturers if they get too popular, citing a past patents. I've been looking forward to the mainstreaming of this technology for a long time, as I think it'll be much bigger difference to computer performance than a couple hundred megahurtz thrown onto video cards every few months. To hear that Seagate is even considering to do something that would very-likely slow down the spread of solid state drives is enough for me to not buy from them.

Toys WarCraft Figures Wave 3
Posted by Z-R0E on March 18, '08 at 05:43 AM
  User-posted image
Due out in November, wave 3 include a Human Priest, Undead Rogue, Blood Elf Paladin, and a Draenei Mage. When I read "Blood Elf Paladin", I got super excited for a moment, expecting the female BE in Judgement from the Outlands loading screen. But no, it's a male guard. I don't care at all for that, but I'll likely get the other three. Expect a bigger figure to be released a couple months after wave 3 as well, as Illidan and the Draenei Paladin were. I'm betting it'll be a Tauren shaman/hunter/druid.

I have the first wave (Illidan pic not included, but I have him) and think they did a fantastic job, especially on the UD warlock and Illidan. The second wave is due out at the end of June, and I'll at likely be getting all five figures (I might pass on the druid after seeing it up close, male Night Elves are blegh).

In the case of wave 3, I'm most-looking forward to the priest. That's one of my favorite sets in the game (after Judgement and Bloodfang probably), so I'm hoping they do it justice. I'm not yet decided how much I like the mage, I was expecting more from a Draenei, but maybe I'll like it more when I see it. The rogue, eh, I'll get it because it's a rogue. The paladin is horrid.

Gaming Portal 2 Announced
Posted by Z-R0E on February 21, '08 at 07:42 PM
Lead designer Kim Swift announced that Valve will be making Portal 2. I'm not rushing to excitement just yet, but this has the potential to be very cool. It also has the potential to be horrible, because there's a lot to live up to in the original Portal I mean, A LOT. I think it'll be a tricky thing to create a game as charming as Portal, but that doesn't feel like a complete rehash of the original. But hey, Kevin Smith managed to do it with Clerks II, so I can see this working. Here's hoping.

Gaming Mark Hanson on LEGO Universe
Posted by Tim on February 21, '08 at 06:14 PM
  Source: Kotaku

Article from Kotaku discussing aspects of LEGO universe..

Quote: FLYNN DE MARCO
The Lego world is all about creativity and building and Lego Universe will be no different. Players will start the game by customizing their mini-figs. According to Hanson, each figure will be endlessly customizable so that you can create a character that looks just like you (or not) to inhabit your little section of bricks. Each world of the universe will have a different theme that corresponds to the different sets of Legos. For example, you will be able to visit the Pirate Planet or perhaps jet over to the Medieval Castle Planet...

I would be all up for that as it's described.
